Google Lets Schools Turn Off Gemini, But Not the AI in Search
Google has announced that schools opting to disable its generative AI tools, such as Gemini and Gemini in Classroom, will also lose access to the standard Google Search engine. Because the company has integrated AI features directly into its search interface, it can no longer provide a non-AI version of the tool to educational institutions. This policy forces school districts to choose between maintaining traditional search capabilities or completely restricting the company's new AI services for students and staff.
