A Claude model autonomously chose a gene therapy and operated on a mouse brain with no human decision-making
Researchers have demonstrated an AI agent capable of autonomously selecting a gene therapy for an epileptic mouse and performing the necessary brain surgery. By independently determining the drug, target area, and injection coordinates, the model completed the procedure without human intervention. This development marks the first instance of an AI system executing a medical treatment on a living mammal, suggesting a shift toward automated surgical capabilities in research and potentially clinical environments.
