Evaluating AGENTS.md: Are Repository-Level Context Files Helpful for Coding Agents?
Researchers have launched a formal study into the effectiveness of repository-level context files like AGENTS.md, which are currently used to guide automated coding assistants. While these files are frequently recommended by developers to improve agent performance, this investigation aims to provide the first empirical data on whether they actually yield better results. The findings will help clarify whether this common industry practice provides measurable benefits for software development workflows.
