Huawei tells customers to find their own AI chip memory, effectively outsourcing procurement to the black market

Huawei has begun instructing customers to independently procure high-performance memory chips for its AI processors. This move forces buyers to navigate gray-market channels, as smugglers currently bypass U.S. export restrictions by bundling restricted high-bandwidth memory with unregulated hardware. By shifting the sourcing responsibility to clients, Huawei is effectively managing the logistical consequences of tightening international trade controls.
