Google built a great smart speaker, but Gemini isn’t ready for it

Google has updated its smart speaker hardware, but the integration of its Gemini AI model currently lacks the capabilities to significantly expand the device's utility beyond basic tasks like music playback and home automation. While AI was expected to transform speakers into more functional assistants, these hardware improvements currently struggle to offer a compelling reason for consumers to upgrade their existing devices.
