Fly Language Model (FLM) Wires the Full Fruit Fly Connectome Into a Frozen 1.2B LLM, and Its Own Controls Show the Wiring Does Not Help
Researchers have developed the Fly Language Model (FLM) by integrating the complete 166,700-neuron connectome of a male fruit fly into the frozen LFM2.5-1.2B-Instruct large language model. By mapping neural data to token embeddings and training a small correction layer, the study explored whether biological connectivity could improve computational performance. However, controlled experiments revealed that this specific biological wiring provided no measurable benefit to the model's accuracy.
