Deepseek is designing its own AI chip
Chinese AI startup DeepSeek has begun designing its own custom chips to support its artificial intelligence systems. This move follows ongoing efforts by Chinese technology firms to reduce reliance on foreign hardware amid tightening U.S. export restrictions on advanced semiconductors. By developing proprietary silicon, the company aims to secure its infrastructure against future supply chain constraints and lower the high operational costs associated with training large language models.
