Readers can't identify watermarked AI text
Research indicates that current methods for embedding hidden watermarks into text generated by artificial intelligence are not yet reliable enough for human detection. While companies are developing these tools to label machine-written content, test subjects are still unable to consistently distinguish between human and AI-authored passages. This persistent detection gap poses a challenge for platforms aiming to use watermarking as a primary solution for identifying synthetic text.
