Google's WeatherNext 3 ditches physics simulations and learns weather directly from live satellite data

Google Research and DeepMind have introduced WeatherNext 3, a weather forecasting model that replaces traditional physics simulations with direct analysis of live satellite data. This approach provides hourly forecasts at a five-kilometer resolution, representing a five-fold increase in detail compared to the previous version. By shifting away from physics-based models, the system aims to improve prediction accuracy using real-time atmospheric observations.
