OpenAI fixes Codex bug that deleted real user files without permission

OpenAI has patched a flaw in Codex that caused its GPT-5.6 Sol model to unintentionally delete files from user home directories. The error originated from a cleanup command that incorrectly targeted system folders instead of temporary directories. To address the issue, OpenAI implemented a verification process for deletion commands and restricted the ability for users to trigger full-access mode accidentally.
