Someone Fine-Tuned OpenBMB’s MiniCPM5-1B on Claude Fable 5 Traces to Ship a 657MB Local Thinking Model

A community developer has released a fine-tuned version of the MiniCPM5-1B model that incorporates reasoning traces from Claude Fable 5. The resulting 657MB model is designed to run locally while providing visible reasoning capabilities and supporting a 128K context window. This project demonstrates how small-scale open-source models can be adapted to mirror the output patterns of larger, proprietary AI systems for localized use.
