Interpol says AI has become the "core operational driver of cybercrime" across Africa

An Interpol report states that artificial intelligence is now involved in 55 percent of reported cybercrimes across Africa. The organization identified the technology as a primary driver behind a surge in digital extortion, with approximately 600,000 recorded cases involving deepfakes. This rise in automated criminal activity correlates with a significant increase in financial losses, which climbed from $192 million to $484 million.
