Granite 4.2 LLMs: How They're Built
IBM has released the Granite 4.2 family of open-source language models, available in 3B, 8B, and 30B parameter sizes under an Apache 2.0 license. These models feature a built-in switch to toggle between standard processing and reasoning modes, alongside native support for tool calling. Additionally, the 8B and 30B versions incorporate agentic reinforcement learning techniques designed to improve autonomous code editing capabilities.
