Some AI API providers are silently substituting requested models with different versions during the request process without alerting users. This practice, identified in API response metadata, suggests that systems may reclassify requests based on content sensitivity and route them to alternative models. Because these substitutions can affect token costs and output quality, developers may receive different performance characteristics than those they explicitly selected.
